Marin to Get Dedicated Hiking Area

In a first for Marin County, a large parcel of vacant land will become a nature preserve used exclusively for vigorous recreational walking. The formerly private 292-acre King Mountain property straddling Larkspur and Kentfield was already being utilized for that singular purpose before being acquired by the county, but now it will officially continue to be reserved for that pursuit in perpetuity.

Celebrity Restoration Efforts Pay Off in Mill Valley

Though world-famous entertainment icons once roamed Marin County in significant numbers, recent decades saw the population dwindle to just a few isolated luminaries. But the ecosystem appears to be rebounding, with new reports confirming that the pop star Kesha has recently taken refuge in the area. The healthy 39 year-old female will share the Mill Valley range with Lady Gaga, who was successfully introduced to the town several years ago.

Did you know? Conservationists remind civilians not to approach celebrities; the safest response during an encounter is to make yourself as large as possible, and back away slowly while making loud noises.

Larkspur Forms Pickleball Working Group

It seems we spoke too soon, recently, when we reported that pickleball mentions were down significantly. Larkspur, in fact, continues to struggle with the sectarian conflict between the people who love this game and the people who do not, with the town now taking the extraordinary step of creating a pickleball working group to shape the destiny of several contested tennis courts. Presumably the delegates of this pickleball think-tank will issue a pickleball memorandum, with this controversial founding document becoming known as the “pickleball papers.”

Sausalito Moves to Revise Regulations on Signage

Everyone will remember exactly where they were when they heard this news, much as we will never forget what we were doing when we learned that Corte Madera had finally released guidance on preferred sidewalk trees. Far from making light of this important matter, we share the Sausalito commission’s “concerns about menu boards”, applaud its “willingness to retain freestanding outdoor signs for commercial businesses” and tentatively agree that “regulations that require lettering in signs in store windows to be no more than an inch tall should be loosened.”

Introducing Our Intern, Who is Actually Leaving

Before going blithely on about our business, we wanted to thank Kleigh Carroll, Marin Lately's first intern, whose reign here concluded last week. Kleigh, a recent U.C. Berkeley graduate and survivor of growing up in Mill Valley, helped us immensely over the past three months and has a blindingly bright future (and present) in media. You can find her bylines in the Marin IJ, the Richmondside and many other publications to come. Please be advised that she has an absolutely ruthless sense of humor.
