The word “pickleball,” once heard and read several times a day, has all but disappeared from the public consciousness – and experts say that’s healthy. “This is where we want to be, with only people who engage in the activity being exposed to the term,” said linguist Frank Nero, adding that pickleball’s defenestration from the zeitgeist "offers relief to the millions of people with no interest in the sport."
